About Us and Our History


Drawing inspiration from our origins in 1972 as Beck Hospitality, our founder, Louis Beck, grew our team from a small Cincinnati-based hotel construction firm into a national hotel ownership and management company with a portfolio of 50 successful properties. Following a reverse merger in 1997, the newly named company went public as Janus Hotels & Resorts (NASDAQ: JAGI) before going private seven years later in 2004.

We are proud to be ranked among the top independently owned, third-party hotel management companies in the country. Today, we serve over 30 hotels and/or other hospitality properties with 8,000 guest rooms, representing all major hospitality brand families as well as independents.

Louis Beck

Chairman of the Board

Louis S. Beck is a graduate/alumnus of the University of Cincinnati, Salmon P. Chase/Northern Kentucky Law School and the Harvard Business School. Mr. Beck started a real estate company with $3,000.00 after graduating from law school. He began in the hotel business, building roadside hotels and subsequently turning Janus Hotels & Resorts, Inc. (“Janus”) into one of the nation’s largest hotel ownership/ management companies. Today, he serves as Chairman of Janus, although his holdings are far more diversified.

In the early 1980's, Mr. Beck acquired 100% of Union Savings Bank (“USB”), a $26mm bank in the Midwest. He later acquired 100% of Guardian Savings Bank (“GSB”). In conjunction with his partner, Harry Yeaggy, he built the bank’s holding company into a $3.6B dollar regional bank that has produced a 28% compounded return on equity. USB and GSB have been the most profitable banks in the United States for Institutions under $10B for three consecutive years. Mr. Beck serves as Chairman and CEO of both banks.

Additionally, Mr. Beck serves as Chairman and majority shareholder of Propane USA, All Keys Gas and Blue Gas, Florida's largest independent distributors of propane gas and retail accessories. He also serves as a general partner, shareholder and director of Hydro Recovery L.P., a Pennsylvania water treatment company servicing the oil and gas fracking industry.

Mr. Beck also serves as Chairman of Summit Funding (“Summit”), a 21-year-old National Equipment Leasing company based in Cincinnati, OH, with offices from coast to coast. Summit has consistently been a top-performing independent leasing company.

Mr. Beck has been an avid helicopter and jet pilot for over 50 years, with an Airline Transport Pilot rating. He has been married for 45 years to his wife, Patty, and they have three grown children and three grandchildren.

Mr. Beck and his wife live in Boca Raton, Florida, and have been active philanthropists through the Beck Family Foundation. He has been engaged with the Community Action Committees at both USB and GSB, which have had a far-reaching impact through their 20-year history of philanthropic involvement. The Becks have served on numerous boards and continue to remain keenly involved. Mr. Beck also currently serves on the Board of Advisors for the John Glenn School of Public Affairs at the Ohio State University.

Michael Nanosky

CEO / President

Mr. Nanosky has over thirty years’ experience in all aspects of the hospitality industry. After joining Beck Hospitality as a partner and President of Hotel Operations in 1989, he quickly developed the company into a top 20 hotel management company, successfully managing over 200 properties for the RTC and various lending institutions and servicers. Later, he was instrumental in the successful reverse merger of Beck Hospitality and Janus Hotels & Resorts, Inc. He has, either personally or as president of Janus, served as a court-appointed receiver in over fifty cases and has served as an expert witness for many institutional investors and lending institutions.

Mr. Nanosky attended Youngstown State University and is an alumnus of the Harvard Business School.

Eric Glazer

General Counsel

Mr. Glazer has served as General Counsel of Janus Hotels & Resorts since July 1998. Prior to joining Janus, Mr. Glazer served as in-house counsel for a textile equipment company in Miami Lakes, Florida, and a real estate development firm in Miami Beach, Florida.

Mr. Glazer earned his law degree from Miami’s Saint Thomas University School of Law in 1993 and holds a Bachelor of Science in Consumer Economics from the University of Maryland, College Park.

In addition to managing Janus’s hospitality and human resource matters, Mr. Glazer specializes in real estate and general business transactions.

Rick Tonges


Rick Tonges serves as Principal Financial Officer and Principal Accounting Officer and has been our Vice President of Finance and Treasurer since 1997. Prior to joining Janus, Rick served as Chief Financial Officer of Beck Group Management Corporation after joining the company in September 1978.

Tom Moore

Vice President of Operations

Mr. Moore has over 25 years experience in the hotel/hospitality industry and has work with Brands such as; Marriott, Hilton, Starwood, IHG, Wyndham and Choice hotels. Tom joined the Janus group over 14 years ago and during 25 + years career has a broad base of experience with positions including; Food and Beverage Director, Regional Food and Beverage Director, General Manager, Regional General Manager, Regional Director of Operations and Senior Regional Director of Operations.

Tom holds degrees of Accounting and Finance from Kent State University as well as a CHA and CFBE Hospitality Degree. With Tom’s extensive hospitality background and experience along with his education, helps him make solid decisions for the owners and Brands on the hotels financial, sales and marketing, and employees’ performance.

Greg Cappel

Vice President - Sales and Marketing

With over 25 years’ experience in the hotel/hospitality industry, Greg Cappel joined the Janus group in 1991. His broad base experience includes positions as Director of Sales & Marketing. 

As VP of Sales & Marketing for Janus, he is instrumental within the Janus structure for individual/group sales, marketing  & franchise affiliation. He brings a solid background base for making decisions analytically, quickly, and with the owners and hotels’ best interests in mind.

Additional responsibilities include assisting and directing Sales and Marketing personnel at the property level, and overseeing rate/inventory management at the properties.

Burton Bongard

Senior Director of Development

Mr. Bongard has over 30 years experience in hospitality management negotiations and aquisitions.  He is responsible for the procurement of third-party management contracts and receiverships.

Dax Masterson

Director of Development

Mr. Masterson joined Janus Hotels & Resorts in 2008 as Director of Development. He began his hospitality career in 1992 at the Conrad Hilton, in London U.K. and spent 5 years at the Boca Raton Resort & Club. He is responsible for the procurement of third-party management contracts and receiverships.
